Terms of Service

Effective November 3, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Luke Geyser, the developer of BluBuddy, based in South Africa (“we”, “us”). They cover the BluBuddy app, its website and related services (“BluBuddy”). By creating an account or using BluBuddy, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use BluBuddy.

1. Who can use BluBuddy

You must be at least 13 years old. If you’re under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use BluBuddy only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these terms for you.

2. What BluBuddy is, and what it isn’t

BluBuddy is a journaling and mood-tracking app with an AI companion called Blu. It’s for general wellbeing and self-reflection.

BluBuddy is not a medical device or a healthcare, therapy, counselling or emergency service. It doesn’t diagnose or treat anything, and nothing in it is professional advice. Don’t use it instead of help from a qualified professional.

If you’re in crisis or might hurt yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line right away. Our help page lists crisis lines by country.

3. Your account

You can sign up with Sign in with Apple or with an email and password. Please give accurate information, keep your login safe, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You’re responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account.

4. Your content

Your notes, check-ins, messages and other things you create (“your content”) belong to you. You give us a limited permission to store, process, copy and display your content only to run BluBuddy for you. This includes sending it to our AI providers when you’ve turned AI on, as explained in our Privacy Policy. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from short-lived backups.

Don’t put anything in BluBuddy that’s illegal, that infringes someone else’s rights, or that contains malicious code.

5. Blu and the AI features

  • Blu is an AI, not a person. Its replies, summaries, forecasts and insights are generated automatically, and they can be wrong, incomplete or unsuitable for you.

  • You decide whether to use Blu’s AI, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → AI & Safety.

  • Don’t rely on Blu for decisions about your health, safety, money or legal matters. You’re responsible for your own choices.

  • If you write to Blu about suicide or self-harm, Blu won’t continue the conversation with AI. It will show you crisis resources instead.

  • To keep BluBuddy fair and affordable, AI features have usage limits. The free plan has monthly limits, and Pro has fair-use limits.

  • We may change, limit or remove AI features, or the AI providers we use, at any time.

6. Free plan and BluBuddy Pro

The free plan includes journaling, the Mood Calendar, Grounding and limited AI features. BluBuddy Pro unlocks Ask Blu, the Emotional Forecast, Blu Rituals and higher AI limits. Pro costs US$14.99 a month or US$99.99 a year in the US, and prices in other countries are shown in the App Store before you buy.

  • You buy Pro through Apple, and payment is charged to your Apple ID.

  • Pro renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You’ll be charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.

  • You can manage or cancel Pro in your iPhone’s Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel it.

  • If we offer a free trial, any unused part of it ends when you buy a subscription.

  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.

  • We may change prices or what’s included in Pro. Any price change applies from your next renewal, and Apple will tell you before it does.

7. Things you agree not to do

  • Break the law, or use BluBuddy to harass, threaten or harm anyone

  • Try to get around usage limits, security or access controls

  • Copy, reverse engineer or scrape BluBuddy, except where the law allows it

  • Use BluBuddy to build a competing product, or to send spam or malware

  • Interfere with how BluBuddy or its providers work

8. Our app and brand

BluBuddy, Blu and the app’s design, text and code belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and Apple’s App Store rules.

9. Changes, availability and ending your access

We work to keep BluBuddy running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. We may update, change or stop parts of it. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or BluBuddy at risk. You can stop using BluBuddy and delete your account at any time. Sections 4 and 10 to 14 continue to apply after your access ends.

10. Disclaimer

TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, BLUBUDDY IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON’T PROMISE THAT CONTENT GENERATED BY BLU WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE OR RIGHT FOR YOU.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM BLUBUDDY OR THESE TERMS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR BLUBUDDY IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR US$100.

12. Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that can’t be excluded by law, including your rights as a consumer under South Africa’s Consumer Protection Act or the consumer laws of your country.

13. Indemnity

To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from claims by others caused by your misuse of BluBuddy, your content, or your breaking these terms or the law.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes will be decided by the courts of South Africa, including the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring a claim where you live. Please email us first, since most problems can be sorted out quickly.

15. Apple App Store terms

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for BluBuddy or its content, and has no duty to provide maintenance or support. If BluBuddy doesn’t meet an applicable warranty, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation. Apple isn’t responsible for claims about BluBuddy, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, or claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property. We are responsible for those claims as these terms provide. You confirm you’re not in a country under a US government embargo and not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies and update the date at the top. If you keep using BluBuddy after that, you accept the new terms.
